RISE!

On April 14, the Club hosted a workshop and luncheon for 12 young women from Yes! Prep High School. This event was part of the Senior year Capstone Project recognizing completion of 4 years of participation in the Women's Resource Group of Houston RISE Financial Literacy Program. 

Thank you to Trisha Oyer, Heritage Community Outreach Chair, for her strong partnership in bringing Evening and Heritage members together for this impactful event.

February 2023 Outreach

Valentine Cards and Candy

Thank you to all who brought Valentine chocolates to the February 1 meeting. The themed day involved the creation of dozens of gorgeous Valentines lovingly designed by our members.  On February 8, members spent a joyful morning preparing 160 Valentine treat bags with the handcrafted cards and chocolates benefitting the Houston Area Women's Center, The Women's Home, and an upcoming Dress for Success Houston event. We are thankful to Trisha Oyer, for organizing this drive.

January 2023 Outreach

Kids' Meals

Resuming a beloved annual January tradition, Heritage Group members spent a gratifying morning with other volunteers preparing up to 6300 sandwiches and snacks for pre-school children in need at one of our favorite non-profits, Kids' Meals. We loved the assembly-line smoothness and fabulous teamwork of all involved!

We can't thank our donors and volunteers enough for their generosity and time in making the 2022 CIS Communities In Schools of Houston Wish List gift bag project a success! The students were overjoyed once more, and truly grateful.

Cookies, Cookies, and more Cookies

Thanks with gratitude is expressed to our members for the sleigh-full of cookie packages donated for holiday parties at Heights House on December 16 and Heights Tower on December 13. 

The cookie selection was great and were enjoyed by the residents.  We are thankful to Trisha Oyer, for organizing this drive.

November 2022 Outreach

Tomatoes and Peanut Butter

In response to ongoing needs at our Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry, Heritage Group members once again heeded the appeal, donating 159 assorted cans and jars of tomato products and peanut butter. We are thankful to our numerous members for their kind-hearted generosity and to member Cathey Harrison for her thoughtful same-day delivery of all these cans and jars directly to Food Pantry shelves.

October 2022 Outreach

Communities in Schools Fall Kickoff

Thank you to Kathy Wilson and Heritage Group volunteers Karen Adams, Ellen Bell, Cathey Parker Harrison, Rebecca Marek, and Trisha Oyer for your roles in supporting the CIS Heights High School Kickoff event on October 14th. More than 40 students attended and were thankful for the meal and party favors. This is an Evening Group led and Heritage Group supported activity.

Heights HS Marching Band

The Heritage Group Board approved a donation of $250 to support Heights High School band as one of 24 bands selected nationwide for the upcoming Chicago Thanksgiving Day parade.

September 2022 Outreach

School Uniform Drive

Thanks to All!
 The 2022 School Uniform Drive has successfully concluded. Thanks to the very generous support of our members and the Heights community this campaign raised $2,500 and collected over 360 uniform items. With these donations and using remaining funds from the Spring Refugee Appeal, over 800 articles of clothing were delivered to four elementary and two middle schools this month. 

Community Outreach

The Heritage Group participates in a number of hands-on community outreach programs yearly. We also engage in close collaboration with the Houston Heights Woman's Club Evening Group on multiple projects benefitting Heights area public school students and school libraries. Below are some examples.

Communities in Schools

We participate in many activities to support disadvantaged students.  

Socks and Undies

We supply local schools with basic necessities for students in need.

Valentine Cards and Cookies

We create cards and bake cookies to share with nearby seniors.  

Kids Meals

We pack lunches and decorate bags to feed pre school age children.

Women's Studies Library Initiative

We donate books on women's studies to local schools.  

Feminine Hygiene Pad Drive

We collect feminine hygiene products to help local middle school students.
